Individualism has been a topic of many an intriguing discussion between me and Nikhil. Each of us have our own take on this topic. But a radically different interpretation of Individualism, given my another friend of mine recently, has virtually shaken my understanding of this age old concept. Here’s what he had to say-
“Every human being is inherently individualistic, or rather.. selfish.. Everything we do is somewhere inspired by self-interest.. a fact which at times is blatantly obvious.. and at times, not as much.. Whatever we do, is either aimed to give us direct physical, emotional or intellectual pleasure, or indirect satisfaction by being acceptable to our family, friends and society.. Responsibility, sacrifice and duty are mere buzzwords.. veils inside which all of us try and hide our inherent selfishness..
Parents work hard and save for their children, coz. doing so gives them happiness.. People help others in need, not because of their philanthropic nature, but coz. they would like themselves to be helped at times of need.. Great leaders do not fight for a cause, they fight for that ultimate power.. the power over people’s minds, thoughts and actions..”
I doubt if my friend will find many subscribers to this diabolical definition of individualism.. but his ideas definite give some heavy food for thought.. Comments??

shubham... your friend is absolutely right...
if you observe there is always some motive behind any act...
the GITA verse of "karmanye vadhikaratye... ma falshu kada chanah.." ... is slightly impractical for the real world... even those who follow this line have a motive of attaining "moksha" or salvation...
it is really difficult to do anything (in today's world) without any expectations ...
